LONELY LANE

Shadows drifting on the wall. Creaking moving down the hall.
Raindrops pounding on the window pane.
Draft that blows beneath the door, ices up the rugless floor.
Another moody night on Lonely Lane.

Old T V is on the blink. Dirty dishes in the sink.
Radio's playing an old blues song again.
Restless wind is causing static. I hear it whistling through the attic.
Another chilly night on Lonely Lane.

Chorus
Still - I 've got a memory, nestled in the heart of me,
to warm me on this cold and lonely night.
I can spend a cozy while, remembering your gentle smile,
warmer than the flickering firelight.

Never mind the creaking hall. Never mind the shadowed wall.
Never mind the wind and pounding rain.
I've got a memory keeps me warm. It outlasts the noisy storm,
and lights the heart tonight on Lonely Lane.

Through the storm my heart still waits, through the lonely nights and days,
certain that the wait is not in vain.
One day you'll be standing here, filling up the rooms with cheer,
to take the lonely out of Lonely Lane.

Chorus
Yes - I've got a memory, nestled in the heart of me,
to warm me through each cold and lonely night.
I can spend a cozy while, remembering your gentle smile,
warmer than the flickering firelight-
warmer than the flickering firelight.
