WORKDAY LIFE

It's a little after 6 on Monday morning.
trying to get us ready for the day.
Body is a-achin' and a-groanin' .
Got to get to work to get the pay.

Got to have the pay to gas the car,
have a house to live in, and some food.
Once in awhile a visit to the Bar,
to soothe our nettled nerves and cranky mood.

Chorus
Oh it's a workday life, for both a man and wife,
just to have a family today.
We usually are scattered, and wonder if it matters.
But we got to get to work to get the pay.

Maybe we should try to get some farmland,
where, at least, it's safe for kids to play,
someplace we could grow our food on our land,
with time to be together everyday.

But I wonder what the regulations are.
How about the licenses and fees ?
How much would it cost to run a farm ?
Could we really live the way we please ?

Chorus
Oh it's a workday life, for both a man and wife,
just to have a family today.
When all is done and said, we never get ahead.
We pay to work, and work to get the pay -
to work and work to get the pay
to work and... (trailing off)
