A WINTER SONG

A young girl in the hills,
where the land is steep,
and winter like chiseled stone,
lessens the chill.
with memories she keeps,
and sings to her beau this song.

Chorus
When you come back next summer,
would you bring me a dream ?
The winter is lonely and cold.
I can't seem to remember
when trees were green,
and sun on the hillside shone gold.
I will remember, and faithfully hold
you close in my heart, though winter is cold.

Here on the hill, skies are grey,
and the snow lies thick and deep.
My soul longs to wander far, far away,
to a place where the skies don't weep.

Chorus
When you come back next summer,
will you bring me a dream,
and tell me of places you've gone ?
Are they bright with splendor
like a mountain stream?
Do they ring with music and song ?
I will remember, and faithfully hold
you close in my heart, though winter is cold.
