JUST ABOUT SUNDOWN

Just about sundown, the blues come around.
I do pretty good through the day.
People to talk to, rush of downtown;
if the blues come around, they're carried away .

I laugh at the jokes, mingle with folks,
and pretend that I'm there in the day.
Closing-time is the cue. I start thinking of you,
when the light starts fading away.
Just about sundown,
I wonder how you spent your day.

Chorus
Just about sundown, loneliness gathers.
I don't want to go out on the town.
None of the old ways still works or matters.
The blues begin sifting down.
Just about sundown in the sun's low ray,
I wonder where you spent your day.

There's a hollow at home, goes with being alone.
I just sit and stare, in a daze.
Just after sundown, it sinks into bone.
The blues gather 'round in a haze.

I'll be busy come morning, when sunrise is warming.
I'll get through an average day.
Then just about sundown, the blues come around,
when the light starts fading away.
Just about sundown,
I wonder where you spent your day.

Chorus
Just about sundown, loneliness gathers.
I don't want to go out on the town.
None of the old ways still works or matters.
The blues begin sifting down.
Just about sundown, in the sun's low ray,
I wonder where you spent your day.
