Here's an old, familiar refrain
most everyone knows at some point in their Journey.
GOODBYE IS THE WORD
It's all gone downstream,
like a vanishing dream.
I stand alone watching it go.
There's a mist on the shore,
I can't see you anymore.
It's all swept away in Time's flow.
Chorus
"Goodbye" is the word,
that I've silently heard.
"Fare-thee-well" is the name of the song,
I sing to myself,
while Time's silent stealth,
carries yesterday on.
In the night I remember,
how the leaves of September,
loosen and fly on the wind.
It's the same way, I guess,
that a lover's caress,
fades away when a love affair ends.
Chorus
"Goodbye" is the word,
that I've silently heard.
"Fare-thee-well" is the name of the song,
I sing to myself,
while Time's silent stealth,
carries yesterday on.
